Winter Beater -- in August

Recommended Posts

Well, my buddy got a Buick LeSabre and was going to junk this thing but I figured I'll give him a little better than a junk yard offer, save the van from the wicked snow and ice of the Minnesota winter, and well, up and bought myself a foreign job.. 4x4 winter beater.

Here it is --

1995 Nissan Pathfinder SEV6,

The exhaust has pretty much completely fallen off and well, at 2k r's doesn't sound terrible but otherwise, you get the picture. Due to that fact it's burnt a hole in the carpet which is covered by a piece of sheet metal. It's a junker, but it's $200 that's going to save my van one extra winter, and probably about 6,000 miles! Excited to see how she works in the snow, even though it's only August. Couldn't believe I went for a foreign job though I tell ya, and sadly enough my Grandpa approved of it! Well, had to share my "new" set of wheels and I'm sure you'll hear/see "progression" on this, because if I don't want it to start on fire, I'm going to have to do some exhaust work!

Nifty. A lot of rust on the rocker panels, real common with those generation Pathfinders.

The stock exhaust size is puny, smaller than 2" IIRC. Get some 2.25" pipping, toss in a glasspack and a Magnaflow muffler, and it'll sound rugged. DOO EET!

Yeah I got a buddy who's got some 2.5" piping so we're talking about just rigging up some pipes out the rear for now, because well, I literally have $0. School starts Monday and on the Florida trip my laptop got stolen, so I had to get a new one. Had a "3rd wheel" along and when your friends run out of money do you let them starve? Well.. cruel question because I have cruel answers, but when I'm a face to face, I can't be mean. So, well, also, the girlfriends' uncle died so instead of her riding along, I had to buy her a plane ticket to come with.. yeah, the trip costed much more than expected so this guys flat BROKE haha.. haven't even paid my bud for the truck yet, going to be a couple weeks but he owes me the favor so it's kind of an even up thing, ya know? But being myself I always make everything work out so it's just a matter of time before I get the insurance on the Nissan and get the exhaust re-done. Money is definitely an issue in this economy I tell ya!! Don't vacation unless you're SE-CURE. haha. It'll make it through the winter though, hopefully I'll be making money as expected because I'm thinking about possibly picking up an '06 cobalt in about 2 months too.. the guy's had it ready since early summer and it's just waiting for a buyer, so, I'm ready for it. I drive passed it everyday, it's a "heartthrob" of a car... God, teenage dreams. :woot:

Haha yeah, if there were anything for an underbody left on it, I would do something with it. But since there's not much left on the underbody so I'll probably just be doing the exhaust and driving it haha.

Time for storage.. time for working on it, ya know.. same thing haha. Maybe put it away for the winter and bring it back a whole new beast, you never know lol... heard an exhaust clip today of an overhauled LX9 that gives me hope!

Have you signed up the 60degreeV6.com yet?

I haven't yet, haha been a while since I was on here even!! I was pretty sure I responded to this question too, apparently my phone didn't send that through!! But again, I'm still not part of 60degree yet, maybe soon when I get time to sit around with the computer for a while. For now, I've been crazy busy. I took my radio, subs and amp from the van out and put them in the truck. Got a free set of Soft 8's for it so it's got nice rims now, and then someone decided to jack my radio and amp from me when I was at work. Fixed the window that the idiots broke. Did a little cleaning in the garage yesterday, have been trying to clean up my yard here because it looks like a junk yard. My birthday was Monday and won $100 at Treasure Island Casino, woohoo, only spent 5 bucks for that! Too bad then Tuesday morning I woke up to a call telling me that my grandpa's $60k boat was stolen. I haven't been in the boat since probably 3 years ago and we were supposed to FINALLY go fishing on Saturday, isn't happening now obviously. Been going to school, keeping BUSY! Finally got a second to sit down and go through some things, hope to hear from you guys and get back on track with my Pontiac friends!!

Wow a lot of that sucks Cody, did they find the boat or do they think they won't? Either way I'm sure your grandfather won't want it back because it won't be the same :(

BUT we did wish you happy birthday on here when it came up ;):lol2:

Haha, no on the boat, but I guess he wanted to downsize so he's taking it a lot better than the rest of us are!! And, yes, storing the Montana for the Winter. When I'm done "modding..." more like completely effing overhauling it, you'll understand. It won't be an every day driver when I'm done with it. I have had it parked for almost two months now, and even my girlfriend said the other day when we got into her GP, "I miss the van!!"

Haha, it's a nice ride, and when I'm done will be a RWD, V8 powered van. So, I guess I can't say I'm complaining, it's got room for the power and will be a JAWDROPPER :lol2:

I'm pretty sure that's what it runs actually.. trans is in good condition, gotta do the pan seal before putting it away for the whole winter, but otherwise is good. The trip to Florida doing 85+ the whole time was a little harder than expected on the stupid seal haha. but, yes "minivan" it is, but with the front end that it has and everything I'm excited to start the project. Although first thing's first, body work -- doing GA GT hood scoops on it, and once I put in the V8, it'll be fully operational.

haha that would take some serious work! I want it to stay the van it is, kind of make it a sleeper haha... looks like a van then I stomp on the gas and reveal a 5.7 or 6.0? haha that'll wake up the kids in their mid 90's camaros and monte carlos when I fly passed them :)

haha the talk is doing it over next Winter, the van might be put away from now, not only through next March but possibly the March after. I've gotten extremely comfortable driving the nissan and I really like having a truck, so I'll drive it into the ground, save the van the trouble. Save me the money on insurance haha. IF I don't have the finances to do it next Winter, it'll be winter 2012-2013, and will be ready for speed in the spring. I plan on buying an engine that's already running so I know that anything wrong will be my fault, not at fault of who I purchased from, and will be using a 4L60-e trans. Rear end PROBABLY will just come from an AWD van of the same style... probably the easiest RWD conversion ever found haha

cool. and will the rear be IRS? and when youre done and when im done, want to go head to head on the drag strip? :) when im done, me and Mark are going to go at it, and me and MTZ will probably happen too. for fun of course, and legal.

I guess I haven't been informed on your plans yet, haha, and yes I would be ready to go head to head!! Haha, and rear end, you asking about independent rear suspension or...? haha, LMK, and we'll definitely hit the strip. I plan to hit a strip with it before the change over, just to see what it will do, and have points of improvement in the end :) also to make people laugh :)
