The standard (TOP) one in attached to the cone of the started while the 2nd one gets bolted to the body of the starter. What is in the car now? you just need to match that. If it is the standard unit look into HD options to help with any hot start issues.

Thanks. Been having hot start issues. After driving for a hour or so, car will not immediately restart until it sits for 8 hours or so, then fires up. The battery is GTG and not the issue as headlights are bright even when key is turned to . I guess starter/solenoid "heat sink" may be the issue. So, am thinking to either 1) relocate the solenoid from the starter to the front driver fender well a la Ford or go with a HD solenoid on the starter. Thoughts?

Many Pontiac owners report heat soak issues. Pontiac had two starters back in the day, the standard and the heavy duty starter. If it is available today always get the heavy duty one. In fact, most places only stock the heavy duty anymore. Further, you can obtain a small heat shield and put heat resistant material on the shield to help resist heat soak since the starter is typically surrounded by the exhaust manifold.

Finally make sure you timing is set correctly, not too much initial advance above spec. Lucy will slow start when she's hot but she will start. I have the heavy duty starter and factory reproduction HO/RAM AIR exhaust manifolds for my A-body Lemans. I realize that you might not have much choice for your '62 Catalina.
