I used a Vega steering box from Flaming River,  2 shafts and 3 universals to connect it to a Flaming River tilt steering column. I will try to post some photos later.

Vega steering boxes tend to be one of the go to steering boxes for a lot of hot rods. These non-power assisted steering boxes do not require a ton of effort to steer, they are some what small (as steering boxes go), and work well for a 2500-3000 vehicle. My first car was a Vega. You didn't need a lot of effort to turn them. That's why they are still popular with builders.

'31pontiac - your fab skills are outstanding. I love watching what you come up. You are true hot hodder. Keep up the great work.

What / whose gages are you going with?

1955 DeSoto

Sweet!!!

Obviously there is a back story to you selecting '55 Desoto gages. Desoto is not an obvious choice for most people, albeit way cool in my book. So what is the story behind selecting those gages?

I found the DeSoto dash at Hershey about 17 years ago (about 3 years after I started this project). I had been looking for gauges from a ‘50’s or ‘60’s vehicle to kind of keep in the 1960’s hot rod theme.  Since that time I have looked at many cars and aftermarket gauges (Moon, Stewart-Warner, Classic, Autometer, etc.) and didn’t see anything I liked better.  They fit my Pontiac dashboard well, have that period hot rod vibe, and are seldom used anymore.
