Well finally got a day to start some of the other work I need to do to widen the rear cover.

1997-2000 did not come with rear inside fenders, but 2001-2003 did. So in 2001 I went and bought rear inside fenders for the Indian. Now with widening the back cover those need widened as well. So I went and got new rear inside fenders from my GM parts dealer buddy so I could start that work.

attached are some photos of that work, as well as a photo of how it has moved the lower rear portion of the cover out.

There are several that bond to plastic, but the plastic needs roughed up (course sanding). I use 3M 05887 because it is flexible. The exhaust opening remains the same as originally done, see photo.

The Jury emblem is almost finished, still need to polish the nooks and crannies, but all in all I think Frosty will be pleased?!

How have you and your family been? Good I hope!

After lower widening mod. Still need to body work the gap area. Haven’t decided exactly what I’m going to do yet.

spacer.pngWell I finally got a few hours to start the back bumper cover work. First, the area where the cuts were made needed to be contoured to the basic alignment of the original lines of the cover. Then I needed to make an insert piece to fill the large hole and then do the body work.

Right side after cut & reconnected.

Left side after trimmed & blended using heat.

Sanded & ready for insert.

I found this to be a little ironic. The image below to a degree resembles a feather! This is a embossed blemish in the new back bumper cover of the Indian. Which is in the area behind where the rear license plate will sit.🤔

Well moving ever so slowly, between weather and other demands, but made some progress. Getting fairly close to painting the bc/cc soon, I hope!

Well it was a perfect day to paint! Now I JustA need to wet sand and rub it out! Then back to the splitter work to get that finished after the mods I made!

Well I’ve gotten most of of the back cover done, still a little detail work left. The PONTIAC lettering on the lower portion of the cover still has to have gold inlays.

This is the current modified rear cover. No wheels sticking out past the rear cover fender area. The original cover is at the last picture. This shows how much the rear fenders stick out past the cover.

Also installed the new Indian Head

Thank you! Saw Lucy on the Great Lakes page, really looks great! Everything oriented the way you wanted it to?

Most definitely. The only problem I have is I need to paint the backing washers black so they don’t stand out against the grille. Can’t thank you enough.

Not implying you need to do more work,  but those Pontiac letters on the rear would be waaay  coool  if they lit up like the Ol Fieros???  Already have the exhaust going on.  Justa sayin......... I wouldn't change a thing.  The exhaust made me smile, that turned to ...... What if??????  Cause I've always thought it would be sweet to have the lit up Pontiac in my rear spoiler on the Sunbird.   I used metal in the spoiler for strength when I was building it.  Messed up my chance to cut in the letters.

Funny you should say that buddy! I looked at doing Justa that when I started this whole concept, but decided against it finally because there is no real support for that portion of the cover. Just three flimsy plastic arms/brackets that are part of the cover that attach to the impact bumper. I felt if I cut away all that material in the letters, and then cutting loose the outer corners and then reattaching them, that the area would just be very weak and floppy and might put to much load on the corner areas. Still, I may revisit it this winter. I have a couple of ideas as to how I might support and actually strengthen that area, while still being able to back light it.

Well here we go again! This OCD thing is starting to get a little much I know! That said i’m JustA not happy withe the front cover/splitter mod. It’s lacking that punch I was looking for. So guess what I’ll be doing this winter?

Right a new front cover, a new front Kaminari lower cover add-on plus additional mods to both pieces and a additional add/change to the front splitter.

The front splitter will be different on the finishing ends. Instead of ending 3/4 of the way to the wheel well opening it will finish at the wheel well with an outer wing.

Wish you luck with the new project.   Couldn't find a flaw in the last one if you were looking with a magnifying glass.  Nobody creates WOW factor like the LastIndian and I'm sure this one will not disappoint.

Here’s the basic concept of the redesign on the splitter. I can’t really show anything on the new concept of the front cover till I get all the parts & than after I put the Indian up for the season I can pull the front end.

I also plan to put in a tranny cooler & and eliminate the radiator cooler! That tranny runs much stronger with cooler fluid. So that will need to be incorporated into the NACA duct design coming from the right side as the left side will be the new feed for the ram air!
