The 11th annual Charleston WV Rod Run and Doo Wop will be held Oct 5 thru Oct 2016. The schedule, host hotel and registration information can be found at:

charlestionwvcarshow.com

It is a show that I don't miss. 1000 cars, flame throwers, concerts on the levy, fireworks, swap meet, racers row. There is something for everyone.

One more thing, this year's raffle car is a low mileage 1994 25th Anniversay Trans Am!

Here are some junk cars that lie next to US-35 on my way down to Charleston WV. These are literally lying next to a service road right next to the highway.

Well its been an interesting 24 hours here at the Rod Run and Doo Wop. After the big cash drawings were over, most everyone bugged out of the casino and head back to their hotels (most folks are staying in downtown Charleston). Sadly, the owners of this '53 Ford hit a deer coming of the casino parking lot. That deer bent some serious gage steel. This picture (in my opinion) does not do it justice. However, the band aid on the hood boo boo is a nice touch.

I had taken a small break in the late afternoon and I came out of the hotel and I walk up to my car and I see Doo Wop president Jack Jarvis being interviewed by a reporter from the local TV station, channel 13, right in front of Lucy. Imagine my surprise!!! Hell even the mayor of Charleston Danny Jones had to wait to talk to Jack! After the interview was over I was talking to the reporter. Next thing I know he decides he wants to interview me! He even films me in the car talking about various thing on Lucy. So its suppose to be on tonight's 11 pm newscast. I am not sure how much will actually be aired.

Havoc will like this, the reporter is originally from Massachusetts and he is a big Red Sox fan - of course!

I had some technical difficulty with PC and SD card from my Canon camera tonight. For some reason the PC wanted to scan and fix bad sectors on the card. Once it was done, all the pictures I took today were gone! Ick. So I will have to re-shoot all the car pictures I took tomorrow. The photos here were taken with my iPhone.

Poor '53!!

Very cool for you and Lucy on the interview! Hopefully they spell your name right. The last time I was interviewed, they butchered the crap out of my last name.

As it turns out, channel 13 is the local CBS affiliate here in Charleston. So the Thursday night NFL game between the Cardinals and the 49ers was just starting the 4th quarter on at 11 pm. So I fell asleep before the news came on after the game. I didn't get to see the video piece until this morning.

It's okay I will have had plastic surgery by then.....and I will still be the evil and underhanded Fearless Leader you expect me to be !!!!! :ph34r::ph34r:

After all I am on a hot streak.....Yesterday I won a small 1/4 tool set (prolly worth $20) for knowing the Big Bopper's real legal middle name (it's Perry). Today I won a $500 casino basket worth of goodies (casino hotel stay plus food and gambling vouchers) and I won the poker run (two pair - aces over sevens). Heck it even stopped raining after lunch that we could put the tops down in the mountains coming back - fantastic cruising weather.

The down side is it has rained three times today (and cleared out thankfully). Tomorrow is a threat of more rain from the remnants from Hurricane Matthew. So that could soak most of the morning unfortunately.

Making out like a bandit, might take a bit more though to cover the costs to hide that mug of yours :P

Uh, oh. Hope it clears up for ya. It was bright and sunny here today.

  • 2 weeks later...

Finally found some time to post some pictures of this year's show. Your's truly won the Route 60 poker run with two pair, aces over sevens. Next closest hand was a pair of eights.

I dunno what it is either but the sign in the back says the owner has $895 total invested in it.

A couple of local children that wanted to pet and hug my Tigers. The teddy bears they are holding once belonged to my son Jacob that my wife purchased for him while I was unconscious and deathly ill in the hospital in Charleston back in the summer of 2010. My wife thought it would be a good idea to give away a lot of these WV bears to the kids this year. I gave some away and the rest I donated to the WV flood victims collection that they had at the car show.

Way cool Camaro. The owner is asking $120k for it!

IMG_0934.JPG

Awesome Cadillac! I am just not sure I wanted to be parked to what's next to him....

IMG_0937.JPG

Yup, it's a Yugo. Meet "Grace the Yugo" and it is still a rolling hazmat....that is either gas or anti-freeze leaking out from underneath. BTW, "Grace" was the first give away car at the Doo Wop 4 years ago. People were afraid to buy tickets in fear they'd win it. This year's raffle car was a 25th anniverary '94 Trans Am. I bought tickets but didn't win, dang it.

That is one clean Yugo!

I love that Caddy and Camaro!

That's nice of you to donate those bears. Definitely a small gesture but can mean a lot to a kid and I can guarantee they won't forget where they got it.

I loved the paint scheme and the headlights on this Ford pickup.

Lucy near show center - just before I left Sunday morning. That is my friend's Corvette. He's owned it since new in 1971. It is a survivor, he can tell you the story of every scratch in the fiberglass and paint.
