St. Joseph's hospital, Pontiac, MI to be precise, in 1958. I'm not sure exactly why my parents went there, I think it was the doctor's hospital. But anyway, that's a pretty early connection with Pontiac. I grew up and went to school in the Northwest suburbs of Detroit and spent a lot of time in Pontiac growing up.
Car-wise some of my fondest memories of the early 1970s were long rides in a friends mom's Vista Cruiser to Northern Michigan. We had a lot of space back there to play around on those long drones up I-75, and the wrap around windows on that station wagon, and cool rear facing third seat still bring a smile to my face whenever I think of of them.
Of course the Trans Am was the car that ruled in my high-school years. (I've been having an ongoing argument with a Chevy-guy friend of mine about how even if you like Chevy's "Pontiac Ruled the 1970s", as Chevy dropped all their bigger engines and the venerable 350ci got weaker and weaker and weaker.
My only slightly vintage machine is a 1976 Toyota T-100 4x4 pickup which has been modified for better off-road use. I take it on local trails here in Clark County Washington.
My family and I enjoy the local car show season. It's shorter than some places, but has a lot of events packed in and we try to make a few of them every summer. In thinking about going from viewer to participant, I'm leaning towards possibly some sort of vintage Pontiac. And in the mean time I need more Pontiac Propaganda to dominate my Chevy loving friend in our discussions.
