  1. My wife used to have one as well. FYI, the jealous thing goes both ways
  2. Absolutely, when I get the pieces put back in I will post a pic. To do all six pieces it was 750.00 with freight. The completed parts were worth every penny. Considering how hard these grill parts are to find. The company was The Insane Paint shop. Their number is on the buffing rags the parts are setting on. The process is called Cosmic Chrome and you can get Chrome in about any color you desire. Pretty neat process. The company has a post on YouTube.
  3. Finally!! The grill pieces are completed and looking awesome. The dead ends with this project finally came to a end.
  4. He didn't say for sure, said once he got the parts he would let me know. He is suppose to get them this coming Monday. I hope it's not too long.... kind of frothing at the bit to see what they will look like in a "new" condition
  5. I recieved the replacement grill parts, so, that's one huge piece of progress. But and there is always a but, the one piece that I so desperately needed had 2 broken fins. Just on one end though. I contacted the guys at Insane Paint and he says he can repair it, so relief. The second piece of progress was the parts went out yesterday to Insane Paint to be repaired and new chrome applied. When I get them back I will post pictures and an opinion on the job done. Here are before pics
  6. Well I tried, apparently the west coast is not nearly as diverse in these matters as the east coast is. Worth a shot though. Thx
  7. Thanks, appreciate the heads up. The more options the better
  8. The name of the company is Insane Paint and the guy I'm dealing with is Dan Gokey. If I do end up with these guys I will let you know how the project turns out. I mislead you though. The company from Detroit has not responded yet. The above mentioned guy is in Suamico Wi.
  9. Oh yeah, I had to buy the whole set. In the set 2 have a couple broken fins. I will have to do some serious thinking on how to repair/fabricate these broken fins. Luckily I have some machine shop experience. I intend to send in 6 pieces to have a complete set reworked. I found this car in Vegas. I got a tip from a guy who knew a guy.... you know how those situations are. I have started looking into vacuum chromeing,(simple term) which is the process used for plastic. I have found 4 company's that do it so far. Have gotten quotes from 2. A company in Detroit gave 2 quotes. 500 and 700. The higher quote the do a undercoat that apparently gives a truer chrome reflection and it has a ceramic coating that helps with heat???. The qoute from California was just flat out of line. 2500 and they would only chrome the flat surfaces with chrome and the balance in paint. I get the feeling they don't know what their doing. Still waiting on a couple more quotes so we will see where it goes. Irregardless it's a great learning experience for this old fat man!!
  10. Well, I found the grill pieces. Not real happy with the price but it's something to work with. They will have to be re-chromed. They are plastic so that's a different process and also a limited amount of people who can do it. I'm grateful for the help and comments. Hopefully when the grill pieces get here they are at least what I see in the pictures.
  11. That is a thought, a guy would have to replace the whole nose assembly though... correct? The current grill pieces are individual and the nose piece corresponds with that... ie houses/frames in each piece individually.
  12. All good questions...to be continued. We really have a lot in common. like you, my very first Pontiac was a sport coupe Lemans and is was also a 1973. Picture included. Also included is a picture of what my current Lemand looked like a year ago Really is a small world
  13. Well that is interesting, mine is a 2 door hardtop. So 19,310 were made. Wonder how many are left. I have tried to get past history on mine as it is interesting to find out. Have had very little luck. A friend of mine found it at an auction in pieces in Albuquerque N.M., it had been stolen/recovered and partially disassembled. He partially reconstructed and I'm trying to complete. There is a socal car club sticker in the window so at one time it was there
  14. That's great, by the way, your the very first person I've communicated with who actually recognized that grill. And yep I desperately need the busted one. The car was stolen at one time, not when I owned it, and that's how they got the hood open.
  15. No, my grill is totally different, I will post a picture
  16. I do look there frequently and have not seen anything posted. Guess I will call ,see what I can find out. Thanks
  17. So reaching out here. I have been looking for grill pieces, car has 6 individual pieces, for my 75 Pontiac Grand Lemans. They are, from what I'm seeing, specific for my year and model. Also need the breather hose for this old girl. Parts houses just been shrugging their shoulders. Looking around at wrecking yards locally has been a dead end as well. Would appreciate a point in any direction for these 2 items. Internet seems to be dead on these parts as well
  18. It is to bad to as those cars really do have great lines. They are/were a boat and generally underpowered but they were cool! My 73, well it was 40 years ago, I don't remember a lot about the options. I, for some reason, back then had pulled the build sheet out of it and kept it. Ran across it earlier this year, really the only good info I have on it. I will post a pic of it. I also found the build sheet for my 75, I pulled the fuel tank early last week and it was stuck to the top of it, well parts of it. Totally unreadable , so dang. The 75 is a grand lemans so it does have a few of the options from back then. It has AC so thats a plus. Of course that's one of the things that will need to be repaired.
  19. I've been going to car shows for years and the 73-75 body style is rarely seen in my area. Thanks for the comment
  20. The car currently looks like the 1st pic, one with the Tacoma behind it, the vehicle was stolen a couple years ago from someone in the southwestern part of the USA. It was recovered by the police in the conditions where the front end was torn off (pics 2&3) the car is apparently a southern Cali car as it has a car club sticker from that area. She has great bones but she's missing a few. No horn and I'm not even sure of placement of the Horn. Also need wheel center caps, 1 wheel chrome ring 14", door pull straps A pillar trim driver side etc. To many parts to list My first Pontiac also was a 1973 Lemans sport coupe. Thanks for the info, pic of my 73 included

  22. Had a few Pontiacs in my younger years, found a lemans similar to one I had in the 70s and starting a resurrection of the car. Car was stolen and half torn apart. A friend in N. M. found it at auction, bought it started reassembly and now it's mine to finish. Lots of questions need answered, never brought a older car back to life..... but what is retirement 4!!
