  1. Thank you to everyone who has welcomed me to this forum. There is obviously a deep level of brand knowledge here. I hope to prevail upon you to help me develop a plan to get the Catalina back to smooth running condition. My dad was a parts man for a Cincinnati Pontiac dealership in the 50s. He drove a 1954 Pontiac Chieftain and wore the ring pictured in the attached photo.
  2. Many thanks Wrongway and 64 kiwi boni. I'm sure I will have many questions as I dive into the Catalina. Currently I'm contemplating finding a new distributor that can be curved to account for the unleaded gas. You guys have a great Christmas as well.
  3. Thank you Ringo64, I hope to restore it to a good driver quality car. It doesn't lack a great deal as it is.
  4. Hello, I am MGA mike and am new to this site. I have a recently acquired 1962 Pontiac Catalina Convertible that was a one owner car. It had sat in a garage for about a year. I started reviving it a couple of months ago. I am in Ohio so it is not exactly convertible weather this time of year although with some effort and transmission fluid I was able to make the top go back to the up position. I have extensive experience restoring/rebuilding British cars but not much recent experience working on the old American V eights. I love driving this thing it feels very similar to the cars I drove in my high school days (Oldsmobile.) I am having a tough time getting it to idle decently and it seems to have suffered some mechanical malpractice in various places most significantly in the vacuum advance. I am not sure if some one was try to compensate for unleaded gas issues. I have it in a storage facility for now and when the weather is not too cold I work on it. It is too long and low to make down the incline and flat transition to my more comfortable garage.
