  1. Just kinda scanned over the last few pages of this thread and thought i would throw my 2 cents in just for a little bit of info on flat black i dont know if you are aware but im the one that painted crimsons rims on his goat and they are pretty much flat black. the thought that it will cost less for flat black paint is a myth. you basically have 3 options... rattlecan - cheap but i wld highly suggest not doing this. your overlap will suck because rattlecans dont have a fan pattern ( and the little attechments for rattlecans that say they give it a fan pattern and have a little trigger on them dont work just so ya know ha) and i will almost gurantee the car will turn out "striped" flattened single stage paint - these are what they used on cars up until the 70s. there is no clear coat just a high gloss color coat. the main complaint about single stage paint is that they fade over a short amount of time and become dull which wouldnt be an issue if your going flat black. they are almost always enamel based so theyre durable but are succeptible to sun cracking after several years. single stage paints are relatively cheap. you could probably buy paint to do the whole car for around 200 bucks as it requires no clearcoat flattened base/clear - this will be exactly the same as a base/clear system but the clearcoat will be flattened using a flattening agent. the base is applied like normal and then flattener is applied to the clear and applied like normal. the downfall to this would be the price as it would cost as much as any base/clear paint job but would be the way to go if you want a permanent paint job. if this paint job is temporary and you REALLY want to do it i would suggest the flattened single stage. i cant stress enough how much you should NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER rattlecan a car because if you ever wanted to paint it again you would have to strip the spray paint off or the new paint wouldnt stick for shit! not to mention your car will look like a pile of dogg poo fartin down the road! I hope this helps man!
  2. Beautiful car man! love that gen of goat. i just finished painting my 64 bonneville last night and im now on the 30-40 hours of wet sanding and buffing lol. she will be a beauty when shes done and im likin the pinstriping very unique! cant wait to see more pics!
  3. these things are a PITA i bought a civic that had them in it and i didnt like them so i took them out. i had to drop the headliner, tear apart the dash and glove box, pull the radio, even had to pull the center console because they were professionally installed and in illinois its illegal to have them on without the parking brake set so it was tied into the e brake as well. for all the work i wouldnt bother imo
  4. lol alright. shouldnt be much longer now. my clear is special ordered and wont be here til friday prolly so the car will probably be painted not this monday but next im pumped
  5. thanks man me too! im very please with the color combo. they do contrast each other alot. but im thinking the contrast can be neutralized a little with a nice silver metallic pinstripe to set off the colors
  6. annnnddddddd.....metalflake over the base!! the picture doesnt show the color that well but its insane and i love it!. in the sunlight the flake pops like crazy and doesnt wash out the pearl in the color! this is the finalized color for the blue. i didnt want to mess with metalflake in the jambs it would have been a PITA but the blue will be this color
  7. excuse me while i jizz in my pants. this goat is orgasmic
  8. ok decision is final and paint is being ordered for the jams in just a few mins. top color is 96 viper blue pearl metallic bottom color is BMW alpine white here is a similar paint scheme the top is viper blue pearl met dunno what the bottom is exactly
  9. so far im leanin towards dark blue pearl metal flake or black metal flake with alpine white bottom
  10. here are the color chips i took pics of i do like that color but i dont think it would look very good on my car lol
  11. Shitty picture but heres black metal flake. the flake im ordering is .004 millimeters in diameter so it will be a little smaller flake but you get the idea. god theres so many variances in flake lol
  12. im ordering the flake this weekend and i will be doing a sprayout panel. also i took some snapshots out of our metallic chip booke of the blues and the green i like i will put them up in a bit
  13. the black will be VERY close to this but with larger flake. mine wont be metallic it will be actual metal flake mixed into the clear
  14. that blue is the original color of my car but my car will be highly modified when done. im thinking black with black metal flake, maybe with some blue pearl? on the bottom and BMW alpine white on the bottom
  15. i got about a week until i have to order all my paint. you guys just gotta keep in mind they wont be regular metallics they are gonna be metalflake theres a HUGE diff lol
  16. yes but which? thats where my trouble comes in im very "on the fence" about it
  17. My car is a week or two away from paint and im down to the wire on what color to paint it it is going to be two tone about 2 inches from the bottom of the top most body line. the bottom color will be silver with charcoal metalflake. the top color is what im unsure of. im thinking either blue with silver metalflake or black with gold metalflake im going to be doing sprayout panels of all my color options but until then here is what my car looked like before just so you can get a rough idea of the car... opinions?
  18. ive always used a heat gun and a razor blade and then most adhesive removers will clean the resiude right up
  19. Being that im an autobody major i noticed some of the dents in the pics. and if i had the car in front of me i could tell you what the paint code is. have you tried looking for the paint code on the car? it should be in the glove box or on the tag on the inside of the drivers door most likely. if all else fails any respectable body shop should be able to tell you
  20. lol i sold then they are on a 81 jaguar xj now
  21. are you kidding 125$?!?! i need to go there. im planning on swapping the interior in my 64 for newer leather interior out of a newer pontiac
  22. Very sexy car man! congrats on the buy!
  23. yea the only rust on the car was hidden by the chrome belt moldings that go along the bottom of the car. those are now deleted by the way im not putting them back on and i patched the holes shut ha yea the previous owner had a quickie paint job done and the original paint was sky blue and some parts werent even sanded and the paint just chipped off which you could see under the engine bay. that and its just a rats nest of wires under there those are all being ousted as well as the heater is being deleted and the firewall patched when i put a new motor in it
  24. More pics! These are from before i started restoring it http://foreverpontiac.com/index.php?showtopic=2070
