  1. What did I do to my car today? I put a new coolant reservoir cap on it. I got tired of hearing my Bonneville fart whenever pressure would build up and blow past the worn seal. Drove me nuts trying to figure out where it was coming from, I thought I was just hearing things at first.
  2. Just a comfortable ride. I really don't plan on having anyone in the back and my trunk is empty. This looks like a decent pair, looks identical to the ones I pulled out of there. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/ado-504-527/year/1978/make/pontiac/model/phoenix Just gotta make sure the mounts are the same. Eyelet on the bottom and bar up top. Thanks for the 2 cents Frosty, can you tell I barely know what the f*ck im doing? 😂
  3. Hey guys, I just took out the old rear shocks from the Phoenix. The old ones were those adjustable pneumatic ones that have dry rotted bladders/diaphragms. I'm just looking to get something basic and reliable. Nothing fancy, just for basic grandma driving. I don't know if I should do adjustable again or go with something else? I was looking at something like this but I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask what y'all think.
  4. Son of a bitch... WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF THAT!? I could kill two stones with one bird because that would also allow me to check to make sure the new pump is working properly. Thanks again Two Lane
  5. I thought about that actually, I just installed the new pump today. I'm still not sure if I have a fuel delivery issue stemming from the tank-to-pump line. So it might not work. Now that I'm thinking about it I might just hook a hose up to it anyways and turn the engine over a few times to see if the pump is even pulling fuel from the tank. If it is, I'll run a rubber line like you suggested, if not I'll rig a pony tank of sorts. Thanks for the reply Two Lane
  6. Hey guys and gals, I ordered the pump to carb fuel line, but it won't ship til mid-June. In the meantime I was thinking of rigging a pony tank to get the car running for now. My question is if it's possible at all to have it gravity feed directly to the carb? Will there be sufficient fuel pressure here? It's just a small 2 barrel. I know mechanical pumps only put out like 8-10 psi, so I think It'll work, but I wanted to ask. Thanks all
  7. Yes, the line goes into the front of the carb makes a turn at the waterpump and goes down the side under the alternator bracket to the pump. So if that's the case would I be looking for a fuel line compatible with a 305/quadrajet combo? Thanks for the info y'all. I haven't worked on this car in a few years. I'm a little older, I have some more cash in my pocket, and I have a little more mechanical experience under my belt. (Plus I can weld a little now too). I got sick to my stomach seeing my girl rot away in the woods. Good news, lights and starter still work. Coolant is still full and rich green, oil is full and crystal clear (changed it prior to parking her). Engine fires right up with some starting fluid, but fuel delivery is an issue right now. I think brake lines are gonna need to be fixed and the big ticket item is the transmission. Tranny leaks so much that after 24hrs it wont drive, hopefully its something as simple as seals. Surprisingly 3/4 tires are still full of air lol.
  8. I have a chevy 305 that I'm replacing the fuel pump on. I have the pump out, but the fuel line running from it to the carb sheered off when it wanted to spin with the tapered nut. My question: are there pre-bent lines out there that might fit? I have a old Rochester 2bbl carb on it and most replacements I see list aftermarket holleys or edelbrocks. Or is this just a "get a line and bend it yourself, chump." situation? The other thing I've seen pop up is flexible lines. Are these better or worse than a metal line? My concern would be vibration fatigue and heat, anyone know a thing or two about these? But the ease of installation sounds tempting. Thanks all.
  9. Yeah, and gave Dallas the NFC East title!
  10. The tranny thing I found I think someone was having the problem or similar on an Acadia. If it's inside and outside I think we can safely rule out a dead animal or something inside the system. Have you popped the hood and looked for any obvious signs of gasous leaking/burning, especially around areas that could easily get into the dash/HVAC? Sent from my S60 using Tapatalk
  11. I'll look into it. I wonder if a dye kit will have a bad reaction with the ever so finicky DEX-COOL in the system lol Sent from my S60 using Tapatalk
  12. Does the smell come on if you were to run the blower's with the car off? Maybe try other settings? (Recirculation, external) Does it only come out of certain vents (Windshield, feet, ect) or all of them? That might help you isolate it from being something within the system as opposed to the system drawing the smell from an external source. I just did a some searching and you may also want to check the transmission. Apparently in some cases, burning tranny fluid can have a "propane" smell. Sent from my S60 using Tapatalk
  13. It could totally be a dead animal. Dead stuff has a distinct smell and its not a sulfur smell. There have been times when I've mistaken a rotting mouse carcass that my cat dragged in to be a propane leak. I remember one time walking into my kitchen thinking that the stove was on, but not ignited, only to find a dead mouse under the counter. This is the time of year where all sorts of critters will find their ways into your car. I just had to clean a mouse nest out of the flywheel bellhousing of my tractor. I have no idea how the hell they manage to get into that area. Its amazing.
  14. Possible, but the Giants are in the 5th Seed and Cowgirls and Pats are in the 1st.
  15. I actually took the cap off at 100F on the gauge. No hissing. Oil looked fine. Temps never go over 200F and I drive to and from school on the highway on a weekly basis. Sent from my S60 using Tapatalk
  16. Didn't check the pressure under the cap. I'm too scared to open it up unless the engine is cool. I had a tractor radiator blow up in my face this summer and I makes me uncomfortable lol. I check the oil. Dunked the dipstick twice and looked into the oil filler at the timing chain, looks like oil that has about 70% life left (According to the DIC since I reset on last oil change). The temp gauge has never moved over 200F or done anything crazy. It climbs steadily and stays put like It should. I did notice coolant leaking a few times, but if my memory serves me it was under the reservoir area and not actually the engine. Not sure, I'll have to get a test kit for sure though.
  17. I'll have to do a more thorough investigation, but I've never encountered pressure in the reservoir. How exactly could I check that? Squeeze the coolant tubes? Take the cap off while running before it gets up to temp?? I suppose I could get one of those kits that tests for exhaust contaminate in the coolant. I also took the oil filler cap off when the engine was running for no real reason and the oil that was being slung around on the timing chain looked like normal oil. I've heard if there is exhaust in the coolant than the temperature gauge can get wonky because an air bubble can pass over the sensor and give a false reading.
  18. So, as some of you may know I have a Northstar engine. Today my car was dead, I haven't driven it in a few days and it was sitting in single digit temps all day on Friday. I wasn't surprised, seeing as I still have the f*cking factory battery in the car. (I'm too cheap to buy another one, its like $150+) I jumped it, and as expected the car was idling high because the battery was so low. After a minute of so steam started to rise from the engine block. Smells like coolant (Oh shit). I just let it happen. I watched it with the hood open. I then turned the car off and restarted it to reset the idle back to normal. At this point it started to steam less and less as the temp gauge climbs. It reaches the 200F mark and the steam is gone and everything is hunky-dory. Let the car sit for about 10 more minutes and the temp gauge stayed right on the 200F mark. So like, is this an early sign of a HG failure? I mean the car has almost 190k on it and this is the first time I've noticed this. The car yells at me for low coolant about once a month and I just top off. So I always knew coolant was leaking or burning somewhere, but I assumed it was like leaky freeze plugs or something. (I read the freeze plugs on the NS can weep overtime)

  20. Looks like that picture he posted showed a wire grounding out/shorting. Lemme guess. You wrapped in in electrical tape?
  21. There is a drip in the passenger side whenever the A/C is on in my GXP. I have no idea what the HVAC system behind the dash looks like, but I assume there is a condensation drainage tube that runs behind there. I have a feel its been plugged up somehow. Has anyone had any experience with getting back there on these G-platforms? Its it a relatively DIY task getting back there or is it a complete pain in the ass?
