I received the gauges from Williamsons Instruments after they rebuilt the speedometer and updated the others from 6 to 12 volts. My son-in-law wired them and we installed them in the car. Everything functions as they should. Still need to add lighting for the tach, ignition switch, and E-brake indicator.

I was looking for a way to close and weatherproof the unused holes used to bolt the rear fenders to the body without welding them shut, in case someone in the future wants to put them on. Using my CAD system ( cardboard aided design ) I developed a pattern and cut 2 pieces out of heavy gauge sheet metal. My brother welded studs on the back of each curved strip to attach them to the body using the original holes. They will be painted body color so they will almost disappear.

Fitzy, I retired from Knoll Inc. (now MillerKnoll) in May of 2020 after 47 years. I never minded going to work, but was looking forward to retirement, spending time working on my cars, attending shows and flea markets. Covid changed a lot of the public get togethers plus I started doing home improvement projects, some necessary, some by choice. All that said, I am still busy even though I am not working, getting the ‘31 finished is almost as much of a challenge as it was while I was going to work.

There was an added attraction 1 block away!

This was the 60th anniversary of this event and I have shown a Pontiac there every year since 1975. Only half as many cars attend in recent years as used to in its heyday, which still leaves almost 1000 vehicles for spectators to enjoy.

A few pictures from a local show I attended on Friday evening, July 28. Temp was 96* and the heat index was @ 102* . That kept the car count down from about 500 to under 300 (some of us old people don’t deal with that kind of heat too well🤪)! Anyway, here you go.

Feaster22, I believe your transmission is the infamous RotoHydramatic a.k.a the Slim Jim. In the late ‘80s I had a ‘61 Catalina with the same transmission and converted it to a 4-speed ( with a lot of help from a friend). Don’t remember all of the details but if you go factory original, the pedal assembly and clutch linkage must be from a 1961 or 1962 full-size Pontiac. I think the transmission rear crossmember is different than the automatic and I don’t remember if the driveshaft length was different. I had a bell housing that fit the pre-‘65 block. I used a Muncie 4-speed from a ‘69 Firebird.

June 4th. Hosted by the Keystone State Chapter, POCI. 140 vehicles attended our 44th annual event.

Forgot to mention that you have a great car. Is it an original Tri-Power car? Automatic or manual transmission?

Roadk01, it’s always been my understanding that the 8-lug wheel option became available late in the ‘59 model year but was never installed at the factory, only over the counter until the 1960 model year. According to POCI, they are technically considered correct for 1959. Interestingly, Roush made an 8-lug looking disc brake conversion, but I don’t think it is available anymore. Probably pricey. Maybe someone else has more info on this.

Agreed!!! I was fortunate enough to meet him at the POCI Convention in Michigan in ‘79, and he held a seminar at our Convention in Downingtown, PA in 1988. He shared many interesting insights about the inner workings of Pontiac and their advertising during their heyday. He will surely be missed.
