  1. I'm sure our Great Lakes friends (Michigan) have More than enough snow to go around... No Snow here in North Carolina...Just Single Digit High Temperatures...By Far...The Coldest Christmas since 1983...My home HVAC system has run continuously for the last two days...Is barely able to keep the temperature 65 degrees here in the house...Of course in typical NC fashion...The temps are supposed to be in the high 60s low 70s by the end of the week...Go figure.. Merry Christmas/Happy prosperous New Year..To You and your Family...And all our Ponchofiles Down Under...Hope that we are all here Next Year to do it again... TLBT
  2. Does the car have the original engine..?? Generally red hot catalytic converters are caused by unburned gas dumped into them...Usually Due to an engine Misfire and not burning the fuel completely in one or more of the cylinders...Could be something as simple as a bad plug wire or spark plug itself....If you could give some more details...Might be able to help you norrow down some..
  3. My car is the Red Firebird behind the Yellow truck in the backround...
  4. Yes it definitely grabbed my Attention....It's first one that I have personally seen in Several years that wasn't a completely ragged out incomplete rust bucket basket case...Will see the owner again in a couple weeks....
  5. Attended a local cruise in a couple weeks ago...Saw some Pontiacs that I haven't seen around my area before...Personally I have a thing for the 1974 Grand Am...Spoke briefly to the owner...He mentioned in passing that he maybe/might..?? Be willing to deal...We shall see...
  6. I have been away for awhile...But Now I'm back...This may or may not work..?? in your particular application...Might be worth looking into though...
  7. You might be able to use/ get "Shorty" style headers for a Pontiac engine...As long as where they Dump out..Is close to the same area as the stock/factory exhaust manifolds dump location...They wouldn't have near the inherent fitment/clearance issues as long tube headers would...And with little modification...You could run the head pipes probably really close to the factory location...No real power gain... But would sound good with what ever mufflers you decide too use... One other thing...Would also highly suggest that you don't go overboard with the exhaust pipe diameter....Too large an exhaust pipe/Header tube diameter can/will Kill the low end torque Output...
  8. Yes it is a really nice scenic drive...I know every nook and cranny from Roanoke Va to below Asheville NC..It is only 45 minutes from my driveway to access the Parkway at Fancy Gap Virginia...
  9. The weather hasn't really been that Hot/Humid here yet...Have only had five or six days of 95Β° 95% humidity days So far this year..But it's coming.. You can count on that...Having the AC functioning will be a good thing Especially if ya'll from the Arctic northern Midwest...Aren't used to it..The AC systems on F- bodies (all generations)...Even when brand new will barely keep you from perspiring while driving on a really hot day here in the Southeast Especially with the R 134 refrigerant as it is not nearly as good as the Old School... R-12...was.... Be sure to drink plenty of water and stay hydrated...
  10. Thank you all for your thoughts and condolences...They are truly appreciated... Now that reality has finally set in...I have installed the brake rotors, pads and flushed out the old original brake fluid and Replaced it with DOT 5 fluid...Including purging the old fluid out of the ABS system also...I wanted to document the process but that didn't happen...I also didn't clean up and detail the calipers and related parts as well as I wanted too...So I basically ran Quickly through the whole system and did it all in less than four hours from start to finish...I am extremely happy with the functional results...The car had excellent brakes (factory 1LE set up) to begin with...Now I don't have to be nearly as aggressive on the brakes to get it to literally stand up on it nose...and the stopping distances have very noticeably improved all the way around... Will be doing a run down my private road course..AKA..The Blue Ridge Parkway...Within the next couple of weeks...That will be the true test of how good they really are..
  11. Mrs. Two Lane unexpectedly passed yesterday...So everything will be on hold for awhile... TLBT
  12. Finally my parts showed up from SP Performance... Hopefully will be able to install them tomorrow...Also have new pins and bushings for the calipers...Went with Semi- Metallic pads..
  13. Does anyone know what is the difference between Semi Metallic Brake pads...and Carbon Metallic pads..??
  14. Found that amusing too.. Guess the Wildlife isn't onboard with the narrative either... πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ
  15. Tried several different sources to obtain the cryo treated rotors...Same thing from all the companies...12 to 14 week back orders...And couldn't even be sure if they could get them within that time frame... So I implemented plan B..Went through SP-Performance and found some slotted rotors...They are not Cryo treated... I think will work great for me anyway... Anyway the rotors are SP-Performance..Peak Series V55-014 with gray ZRC finish for the front..V55-027 with gray ZRC finish for the rear...The Best part is I will have them here in 3 to 5 days with free shipping...
  16. Spent an hour waiting on the phone with Classic Industries...Only to be told that the rotors and pads are Back ordered...They might get them in 12 to 14 weeks...Maybe... So this occurrence...Causes me Great Annoyance and Displeasure... I somehow can't help from thinking that this Cretin who is talking to me....From the fake Whitehouse Oval Office TV set.....(right this very moment)Telling me how great he is doing...Along with His Buddy who wears the plastic nursing titties... Are Not Somehow directly responsible for this Travesty...And Injustice that has been forced Upon me... So in the meantime I will have to come up with a plan B...
  17. There is a replaceable inline fuel filter already factory installed in your bird...If I remember correctly it is under the car between the rear frame rails above or just in front of the gas tank on the high pressure fuel line and should be easily accessible if the car is on a lift...Have never seen a clear glass/plastic fuel filter used in a high pressure application...But then again that doesn't mean a high pressure rated clear filter doesn't exist... As far as ten year old gas... If it is available in your area...A couple of gallons of 100 octane unleaded non ethanol race gas added to the tank will make a world of difference in the way the car runs until the old stuff has been run out of the tank then after that just put in top tier gas for a couple tank fulls then you should be good to go....
  18. Will be acquiring the parts through Classic Industries... Will be doing all four (4) Wheels...With the Cryogenically treated Slotted Rotors and the Hawk HPS Ferro-Carbon pads...From what info I'm able to gather... Apparently the cryo treated rotors are only available with the slotted rotors....But I could very well be wrong on that...??? I'm hoping this is going to be a good Upgrade from the nonexistent/Discontinued Original GM 1LE specific braking components...That the car is originally factory equipped with... Which is a Really good package to begin with....So I guess I will find out for sure...When the parts arrive and I install them... Am going to push the order button within the hour... Thanks again for everyone's input and comments... TLBT
  19. Thanks for the input guys...Will be going with Sport Rotors Cryogenically treated slotted Brake Rotors...I'm going with the slotted rotors instead of the Cross drilled is because in my personal experience I've found that the drilled rotors have a tendency to crack outward from the holes... Under extreme severe use Braking conditions...(Nascar short track ovals) The car is mainly driven under normal street use conditions....But it has occasionally been run on the track...and Routinely speeds over 100 + MPH on my favorite road course (Blue Ridge Parkway)...Will also be going with Hawk HPS Ferro-Carbon pads.. Any final thoughts/comments Would be appreciated Before I push the Order button...Thanks again guys...
  20. My 1997 Firebird 1LE finally needs brakes...Front and Rear Rotors and Pads..The 1LE specific parts are no longer available...I'm going to reuse the factory calipers...So I'm looking for Input on severe duty rotors (slotted or not..??) and matching pads..any input will be appreciated... PS..got 100,000 miles out of the originals...
  21. Like the TA...Had a very low mileage 86 that looked Identical to yours...Mine had the L69 (305 HO) engine with a 5 speed manual transmission... It Was destroyed in a head on collision with a Sunbird back in 2004...Was very lucky everyone was pretty much able to walk away...
  22. Easiest way...To Access the starter wires...Before lifting/Unbolting the engine...Drop the starter from Underneath...Support it so that it is not hanging on the wire harness...The wires will then be easily accessible...Then use a 5/16..??...Socket or wrench to take the wires loose from the solenoid...Having the starter off the engine can actually be beneficial...Clearance wise when removing the Mill...Anyway.. Are you removing the the engine and transmission together as one unit..??
  23. πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ» Professional grade work..looking good
