  1. Now this would be perfect at Halloween!
  2. We have a '69 Pontiac service manual online here at FP under the Learn/Manuels section.
  3. Your car, your wallet, your rules. These are some of my suggestions. A front disc brake conversion would be an excellent safety upgrade. A mild custom cam to tweak performance of your inline 8 without going crazy. Consider installing an overdrive automatic transmission or adding a Gear Vendors Overdrive kit if you want to keep the manual tranny - to get better highway economy. New shocks, replace all the suspension bushings and body mounts with new ones. Most, if not all, are shot, sagging or rotting. Install a rear sway bar if you car doesn't have one. Definitely replace every bit of rubber vacuum hose and rubber fuel lines on the car. This is mostly a safety issue. If your hoses are still original, then they were made at time when unleaded and ethanol fuels didn't exist. Ethanol will destroy old hose from the inside out and raise the potential for a failure or possible fire. Today's modern hoses are made to deal with the effects of ethanol. Carb rebuilt kit with parts to handle ehtanol fuel Harden seats on the valves to handle unleaded fuel THose are my suggestions without trying to break the bank and keep the car mostly stock.
  4. I agree with Justa. The only other thing I would tell Butler is what engine size you have. For a 326-455 it should work. If it 301 or a turbo 301, it may not since those engines have a 1" shorter deck height that the other Pontiac engines do.
  5. Welcome to FP. Lots of Lemans lovers here. I have a '72 Lemans Sport convertible. Indymanjoe has a '72 Luxury Lemans. So plenty of "experts" here.
  6. I once owned a '73 Lemans Sport Coupe, back in the late 70s. Today, the colonade style A-bodies (73-77) are pretty much unloved by the aftermarket when it comes to interior and exterior parts. You are already aware that so you know you have to find a donor vehicle to get the parts you need, or find a wildly fantastic auto upholsterer to help you out. Other salvage yards to try are: Dessert Valley Auto Parts - Phoenix Arizona Mile High City - Denver Colorado CTC Auto Ranch - Denton Texas Hidden Valley Auto Parts - Maricopa Arizona Turner's Auto Wrecking - Fresno California L&L Auto Classics - Wendell Idaho Browne Auto Salvage - Sunset Texas K&K Motors - Graham Texas I also happen to know that the Pontiac Transportation Museum in Pontiac, Michigan has at least 4-5 73-76 GTOs and Lemans. What I don't know is if they are willing to sell any of their parts. You'd have to call them to see.
  7. Well at least Pine Knob is back to being Pine Knob. That's progress - I think.
  8. Pack it with Vaseline? Really? Where should it be packed to be most effective - the engine or Joe? Does Vaseline contain ZDDP for the "break in" period? Asking for a friend!
  9. The Catalina was the top of the line option for the Chieftain line for Pontiac. Think of the Bel Air in Chevy speak. They are essentially the same car with different trim and/or options and appointments. Charles' email is: [email protected]
  10. I am not certain that a 1976 Firebird would have a VSS, just the speedometer cable since all the gages are analog. If you have installed some sort of electronic controls that now requires a VSS, then you need something to convert the analog out of the transmission to digital. I believe Painless Performance wiring has one. If the car is stock and going to remain mostly stock, I don't think there is a VSS or a need for one.
  11. The 71st annual Detroit Autorama is this coming weekend at Huntington Place (formerly known as Cobo Hall). This show is home to the famous Ridler Award, the oldest trophy in hot rodding. https://autorama.com/attend/detroit/
  12. Welcome to FP and the madness. Talk it up here in our forums. We have lots of restoration and performance experience. Ask away!
  13. Here are the photos that Indyman Joe sent me to post in this thread. Joe reports that there is no oil going to the cam thrust plate. He said he is getting a degree wheel and he hopes to have it done shortly. He also said if you look at one picture, you can see the feed hole. If you look in the other picture, you can see how it was when he took it off - 180 degrees off!
  14. I agree with Justa. I'm also a Michigander. Live between Flint and Lapeer. I meet with Justa, JustaG6, notallthere, and Indymanjoe all the time. We'd be delighted to hook up with you this summer.
  15. No,worries dude. Send them my way, I’ll get them posted
  16. Okay - good to know. I am the Prez of the GMC chapter, as well as a member of the Michigan Widetrackers.
  17. https://www.classicindustries.com/shop/1976/pontiac/firebird/parts/?q=Engine Decals
  18. I got an email last week from Karen Britton with this same info. Thanks for sharing.
  19. Remember them! I had one back in high school! It was a cheap and easy way to get FM when all you had was am AM radio in your car! Then I figured out getting a factory AM/FM or an AM/FM 8-track radio out of a junkyard was easy and relatively inexpensive.
  20. Detroit Iron sells both paper and electronic versions of old GM, Ford, and Chrysler shop manuals. I strongly encourage you to purchase one for general reference on your car. https://www.detroitironis.com/1970-1979-pontiac-shop-manuals-print.html https://www.detroitironis.com/1970-1979-pontiac-shop-manuals-usb.html You might also find used ones at swap meets, Craigslist, or eBay. However, Detroit Iron are authentic reprints or scans of the original manuals.

  22. The Catalina has a 5x5” (5x127) bolt pattern, a ‘70 GTO was a 5x4.75” (5x120) bolt pattern. So full size cars are different from the mid-size A body wheel.
