- Comments Stock 2.8L didn't last a year in the car. The very first club cruise we went on, I found out my rad fan didn't work right in the middle of Port Dahousie Bike Fest weekend. No place to pull over so 20 minutes to get through town and 2 hours to let it cool down. Rest of the summer I ran 20W50 oil to keep pressure up. 2001 Grand Am LA1 3400 engine with 27000 on it was install by spring 2004. 7730 ECM from a chevy cavalier, I built my own harness to use the 7730 ECM. All lower stock mounts re-used (at the time) custom upper dog bone made. The motor has come out several times for improvements and upgrades we made while swapping a 3400 into other Fieros.
