Hot Rod Power Tour 2026

Violet is a very dirty girl. It has rained on and off for two days. There is more rain in the forecast for tomorrow's run to the former Chanute Air Force base in Rantoul. IL. I don't think I will bother to clean her off much between now and may dry weather on Wednesday.

This iconic spot in Pontiac IL is under construction. The Power Tour folks who expect to get their car's picture next to this sign are going to be seriously disappointment. I am glad I got Violet's picture next to it last year!

Here I am - finally made it to Chicagoland SPeedway to get my credentials. Long Hauler line was really long. I get mine just in time to get raining on too much, but I was 100% dry either. You could say it rained a tad bit after that.....

Bringin' It Back From The Dead - 70 Catalina Convertible

Hello,
These posts get farther and farther apart because there are fewer things on my to-do list.
The large fan in front of my AC condenser failed at the shaft - the motor shaft spun but the blades did not move. This drove the head pressures very high and there was no cooling but all is good again with a new fan.
I have inspected both of the front brake and wheel bearing assemblies for oddball wear on the shoes and any leaks from the wheel cylinders. Nothing wrong found though there is a high pitched squeal when coming to a stop with light pressure on the brakes.
I paid the local car restoration buddy of mine (he did the motor mounts, AC, etc. on this car) to repair the window regulators and get all four pieces of glass to line up tightly with the convertible top. Quite a few of the little rollers and other things were either worn out or missing but all of this is good now. There are SO MANY glass adjustments here.
I must leave the top up and latched down tightly for a while to get all of the new weatherstrip rubber to compress down for best sealing.
I only have one complaint about the convertible top - its loud inside the car with the top up and I did not anticipate this. The top vibrates a bit at 45 MPH but settles down somewhat at 65-70 MPH. I'm told that some of this will dissipate as the top ages a little and gets some time in the sunlight. But, IDK.
I'm also working through a "slow blink rate" on my turn signals but I've about narrowed that down to needing new lamp sockets - too much resistance, not enough current flow, I think. The signals do work and I've tried electronic flashers and the old school resistance wire flashers and its the same either way. The hazard flashers work perfectly.
Tomorrow night is my last evening to do anything more on this car. We head to Tulsa, Oklahoma on Wednesday afternoon to join the end of the Hot Rod Power Tour, meet up with Frosty and go to the original 1970 selling dealership there in Tulsa.
I have reached out to the Tulsa lady that I bought this car from to let her come take a look at it in this resto-mod condition but sadly, I've gotten no response.
We return home mid evening this Saturday but Tulsa has a lot of rain in the forecast throughout the latter part of this week.
